Be a Clown

Clown kid party

Sometimes very young children are afraid of clowns, but most over the age of three will have fun with this party.

Set Up: Visit your local second-hand store to get a collection of bright colored shirts, pants, dresses, and even shoes. If you find some wigs or funny hats, that’s great, too. You should also buy some costume make-up, be sure to get plenty of white. You can often get red, stick-on clown noses at party stores, and they are fun, or you can just use lipstick to give the kids their red noses. Print off a few pictures of clowns to have on display, and ask some teenage helpers to attend.

A Cowboy Roundup

Cowboy boy party

Kids from about 3-6 love cowboys and horses and will enjoy this party. They’ll get a chance to stretch their imaginations and pretend to be riding the range.

Set Up: You will need to gather as many stick horses as you can. If you can’t find enough store-bought ones, a yardstick with a mop head fastened on the end will satisfy most imaginative pre-schoolers. If you can build an actual campfire at your party spot…great.

Tie Dye Shirt Birthday Party

tie dye children party

Do you remember tie dying shirts and other clothes when you were younger? It was a lot of fun then and it is still a lot of fun now. This is a great way to have a lot of fun and send each girl home with a new shirt to wear to remind them of the great time they had at your child’s party. Remind the girls to wear old clothes since they will be using clothing dye and the last thing you want is someone to get a lot of dye on their new outfit.

Open a Smoothie Bar

You will need several blenders for the party, depending upon the number of guests you have. Two or three girls should be able to share one appliance, so you won’t have to borrow too many. You will also need an assortment of fruits, yogurts, and toppings like graham cracker crumbs or sprinkles to put on top. You’ll also want some rubber scrapers and small measuring cups. If you have fancy glasses and colorful straws for the finished smoothies, that should do it.

Face Painting Extravaganza

You can hire a face-painter to come to your party, often for $30 or less, by checking local bulletin boards or online resources. Or, you could call your local high school drama teacher or community theater to see if they can recommend someone who is handy with make-up. There is also the option of doing it yourself, and there are many books and Internet sites with step-by-step instructions for how to create animal faces and other designs. One set of costume makeup will decorate a whole roomful of kids, so it is not too expensive.

You’re the Next American Idol

American Idol party

This is the perfect party theme for musically minded girls and boys. Because American Idol is watched by millions of families, your guests should have a good idea what to expect and come ready to wow the audience. It should not be too hard to rent or borrow a karaoke machine and some CD’s. If you use actual karaoke discs, the song lyrics will appear on the TV screen with a little bouncing ball that shows the performer where she should be in the song.

For this party you will need dress up clothes. Now some little girls might already have them but if not you can always look in mom’s or older sibling’s closets for items that they no longer wear. If you can’t find anything there you can also check a local thrift store, they are bound to have a bunch of items that will be useful at a low cost.

Kids Coloring Party

Kids coloring party

Any little child loves to play with crayons and paper. This one is always a hit at every little child’s birthday party. Not only that but it is a simple, easy and inexpensive party to do.

You will need a roll of white paper or a few packs of construction paper or coloring books. Both the construction paper and coloring books can be bought at a dollar store. You should allow 5 pages per child so they don’t run out of paper or things to color. Crayons can also be bought in large boxes at the dollar store. Although these crayons will not be name brand the children will likely break most of them so it really will not matter.
