Tips for the Stay at Home Mom
So many people underestimate the amount of work that goes into being a stay at home mom. Just because you don’t actually pick up a check every week you are still working just as hard. There are several ways that you can make your job as a stay at home easier.
Stick to a Schedule
Being a stay at home mom doesn’t mean you shouldn’t manage your time wisely. Making a schedule of daily activities is still very important. Knowing when it’s time to start your day, what needs to be done during what time frame and when the day needs to end not only for yourself but also for your children. While a routine might sound boring to some it is the best way to keep everything together and manageable.
Adult Time Is Still Important
As mothers we love out children more than anything but to be able to love them we also need to love ourselves. To many stay at home moms find themselves stressed out because the only thing they do is care for the children and their household. You should not feel guilty about spending time with other adults. There is nothing wrong with going out on the town once in a while or meeting a friend for coffee or lunch sometimes. It will help rejuvenate your spirit and make dealing with the trials of everyday life easier.
Do Things in Bulk
As a busy stay at home mom I’m sure you feel as though you do the same thing day in and day out. Reality is you probably do. Try doing things in bulk so that you can cut down on the sameness that runs from day to day. I like to do all the laundry once or twice a week instead of every day. You can also do your grocery shopping once a week or even bi-weekly instead of running to the store every day for something else. Make a shopping list through out the week as you see you need things and then spend one day just shopping. It will make your life so much simpler.
Children Need Chores
Just because you’re a stay at home mom that doesn’t mean you have to be responsible for all the chores in your home. Even children as little as 2 or 3 years old can have some responsibility. You can spend a few minutes with them teaching them to put their toys away. Make it a game and reward them when they do a good job. This will instill in them the want to keep their area clean. Older children can have chores that are appropriate for their age such as an elementary child can help fold laundry, while it might not be the best fold it is still helping and teaching them responsibility. Middle school and high school children can be responsible to taking out the garbage, walking the dog or several other chores that need to be done. While a child should not take on a large amount of responsibility a little is good and healthy for them.
Being a stay at home mom is a full time job and shows commitment to your family. While many may not understand that it is a hard job to do you know that you have made the best choice for your children and for your family’s needs.
