Tips for Moms with Energetic Toddlers
If you’re a mom with an energetic toddler then you already know that staying a step a head of them is a must but of course not always an easy task. Somehow those little bodies seem to be able to go much faster than we as mom’s can go. Finding ways to stay just one step in front of them is the key to a more balanced and less stressful day. Here are a few tips that will help you do just that.
Be Prepared
As a mom you need to always be prepared no matter what the situation is. Even though you would probably rather ditch the big bulky diaper bag for a more stylish handbag now is really not the time. In a diaper bag you have the room to carry a change of clothes, extra diapers, wipes and toys. These are things that are a must have for any outing.
Have all the Tools Needed Before Changing a Diaper
Toddlers hate to be held down in one spot, they are constantly on the go but of course that applies in more than just one way. If your toddler is not yet potty trained and your still changing diapers you as a mom know it must be done quickly. You should never set down to change a diaper without all the tools such as diaper (duh gotta have that) wipes and cream. Fumbling for any of these could not only make for a cranky toddler but could also result in a mishap from your child trying to get away.
Burn Off that Energy
As a toddler mom you know the large amounts of energy your little person has. The best way to keep them happy and make bed time easier is to burn off some of that pent up energy. Taking your toddler outside to run and play is a great way not only to interact with your child but also to get rid of some of that energy. You can also join a play group with other children of the same age. Playgroups are not only great for your child’s energy but also for their social skills also. Not to mention it will give you some adult time with other mom’s.
Making Nap Time Easier
Nap time for some toddlers is a hard thing to do during the day but at this age a child needs a break in his day time to be able to enjoy the rest of the day. To make nap time easier it is always best to have a schedule for your day. You should also make sure that your toddle is not hungry because just like everyone else if the tummy is empty then they are more concerned with food than sleep. The best time to nap is after lunch. I suggest you feed your toddler and then have a few minutes of quite time to help your child calmly get ready for a nap. To do this you can enjoy a book or dancing with your child held in your arms to soft music. This will make the transition from daily activities to nap time much smoother.
Bed Time Tips
Just as with nap time never attempt to put your toddler to bed when they are hungry. While we may still be full from dinner that occurred three hours ago their little tummies can not hold the same amount of food as ours so they will be hungry sooner. A before bed snack is always a great way to slow down from the day before bed. A banana or other similar fruits or crackers is a good healthy snack that will help to fill your toddlers tummy and help them get through the night. You should also take time to read to your toddler. Snuggling up with mom and reading a book is not only a great bed time tip but can also help with bonding and is also educational for your growing child.
No matter what you do to burn off some of that pent up energy your toddler has there are ways to make it fun and educational for your child. Remember that your toddler is a little person who needs not only physical stimulation but also mental stimulation to make for a happy and healthy toddler.
